Endless Polyester Round Slings

A polyester endless round sling has many other names that people in the lifting industry refer to it by, for example, as a soft sling or endless lifting sling (because there is no end), as a lifting round strap or webbing or woven sling and many more! Sometimes these slings are wrongly referred to as nylon lifting slings, but polyester slings are far more popular as the industry standard.

About Polyester Round Slings for Lifting

Polyester is a synthetic man made material that is lightweight and durable, and in this case is used to manufacture a certified lifting sling to conform with EN 1492-2:2000. Polyester makes a very cost-effective lifting sling that is soft to the touch and much less likely to cause damage to the material being lifted; it will not cause the type of injuries to the user associated with wire rope sling (cuts caused by broken wires, manual handling or impact injuries).

Our soft round lifting slings are more compact and lightweight than both wire rope and chain slings (though Dyneema/HMPE slings, another alternative man-made fibre, are lighter still and stronger) and, as a result, are much easier to handle and are very easily attached to lifting points with lifting shackles.

A round sling is comparatively cheap compared to most alternative lifting slings and tends to be more flexible, lighter, and have a better FOS (factor of safety), the end result being that the owner tends to save money with the purchase and achieves greater productivity from staff operating.

On the negative side, endless slings do have less abrasive resistance, though this can be overcome by using a wear sleeve made from either polyester, leather or polyurethane, around the sling or bonded onto the sling. The more common type is removable by means of hook and loop, or Velcro. With a removable protective sleeve, the sleeve can easily be replaced without the need to also replace the sling, or to send it away for a wear sleeve replacement.

Another alternative method to provide sling protection would be to use steel end fittings, such as a Joker hook or Grade 80/100 master rings and hooks, or the use of corner protectors. Contact us for further alternatives.

Our preference as a soft sling supplier is to supply top-quality polyester round lifting slings made in the UK, as they are well-made and have comprehensive quality, testing and technical assurances. We carry stocks of 1 tonne, 2 tonne, 3 tonne, 4 tonne and 5 tonne polyester round slings in many different lengths and some limited stock of higher capacities (8 tonne, 10 tonne, 12 tonne, 15 and 20 tonne, for example), though the higher capacity slings are often made to order. Because of this, we can also make special polyester endless lifting slings to customers' specifications with up to a 100-tonne SWL (safe working load).

We also offer lifting slings manufactured from the same polyester material, but with the polyester fibres woven into a belt-type webbing sling with a reinforced eye sewn in at both ends of the sling.

£££ Worth noting...

The lifting sling market is saturated, and we are aware that there are other slings available to buy cheaper, but beware, these can be of lesser quality. Our slings are top quality, UK-manufactured and suitable for industrial purposes where quality and safety are paramount.

Tests have been carried out on 'cheaper' slings that have failed/ripped at a lower loading than the 7:1 factor of safety that the slings MUST be manufactured to (in line with the British Standard 'BS EN 1492-2').

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for; it is just something to bear in mind when trying to save a few £££.

Connecting your sling to your load

Slings are often used in combination with lifting shackles and eye bolts to create a secure connection between lifting equipment and the load being moved. The shackle acts as a strong, removable link that attaches the sling to lifting points such as hooks, eye bolts, or load attachment points. This setup helps protect the sling from damage by preventing direct contact with sharp edges or hardware, while also allowing for easier adjustment and positioning during lifting operations. When properly selected and installed, slings and shackles work together to provide a safe and reliable lifting solution.
