- Hack 8 Three Leg Chain Sling
Grade 8 Three-Leg Lifting Chain Slings
This range covers the Hack8 pre-assembled and certified grade 8 (grade 80) three-leg lifting chain slings, available in chain diameters from 7 mm through to 32 mm, allowing selection to suit a wide spectrum of lifting capacities and applications.
In addition to the Hack8 grade 80 offering, similar Hack10 grade 100 chain components are also available. Grade 100 (also referred to as grade 10) provides a higher capacity-to-diameter and capacity-to-weight ratio when compared with grade 80. This allows for increased working load limits using smaller, lighter chain sizes, where required by the lifting application or handling constraints.
While the Hack8 component range is a recent addition to the lifting equipment market, the William Hackett brand has a long-established reputation within the lifting industry for chain, chain slings, and chain sling components. This heritage underpins the quality, consistency, and compliance of the Hack8 three-leg chain sling assemblies.
Each three-leg chain sling is assembled with a master link, generally three equal-length chain legs (but they can be different lengths if required), and appropriate end fittings to achieve a balanced load distribution. The rated Working Load Limit (WLL) reflects a three-leg configuration, where all three legs are considered load-bearing under correct use and lifting angles in accordance with applicable standards.
The Effective Working Length (EWL) - measured from the bearing point of the master link to the bearing point of the end fittings - can be supplied to customer specification (subject to chain link increments). Where flexibility is required, three-leg chain slings can also be supplied with temporary shortening grab hooks, enabling adjustment for uneven or asymmetrical loads and increasing versatility across varying lift geometries.
These three-leg grade 8 chain slings are suitable for demanding industrial lifting operations where durability, reliability, and certified performance are essential

Chain Sling Selection Guidance
This information provides detailed WLLs for various chain sizes and configurations, emphasising the importance of selecting the correct chain size and configuration for safe lifting operations. All lifting applications should be assessed by a competent person in order to establish the size and type of sling required.
Angle Tensions
In the case of multi-leg slings, the angle between the legs is critical. The actual tension on each leg increases when the angle between the legs increases, as shown in the diagram opposite. For this reason, all general-purpose chain slings are given a rating based on use at 90º incl. angle. The included angle between the legs should never exceed 120º.
Chain Sling Headroom
The distance between the crane hook and the load is known as the “Headroom”. If a specific headroom is required, the “Reach” of the chain sling must increase as the angle between the legs increases, as shown opposite.
Lifting Reach - Effective Working Length
Also known as bearing to bearing (b-b) or chain length.
The reach of a chain sling is the distance between the bearing points of the upper and lower terminal fittings. This distance, commonly known as the “Bearing to Bearing”, should be quoted when ordering slings.
Shortening grab hooks may be fitted to a sling, making the reach adjustable, hence increasing the versatility of the sling.
Unusual Lifting Applications
Recommended Load Factors for unusual slinging methods and conditions.
Factor normally applied to W.L.L. of a Single Chain.
