WH SS C4 QP Atex Hand Chain Hoist
The William Hackett ATEX SS-C4 QP atex chain hoist is designed, manufactured, and proof load tested in the UK. This atex chain hoist fully complies with the requirements of ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, making it suitable for use in potentially explosive and hazardous environments.
All components of the C4 atex chain hoist have been rigorously analysed to identify and mitigate any potential sources of spark risk. Sparks can be generated by fast-moving components, such as the pawls on the ratchet gear. To address this, the WH ATEX SS-C4 QP atex chain hoist incorporates advanced surface technology in the development of critical components, ensuring safe and reliable operation in hazardous areas.

Key Features of the ATEX Chain Hoist
- Light load capability
Tested and certified to operate at 2% of the atex chain hoist rated capacity.
- Quad Pawl (QP) mechanism
- Fitted as standard on products designated “QP”.
- Enhanced resilience to failure.
- Finer tolerance adjustment.
- Endurance tested to twice the industry standard.
- Safety factor
4:1 safety factor for increased operational security.
- Spark resistance
Copper-plated hoist components and a stainless steel hand chain ensure the ATEX chain hoist is safe for use in hazardous environments.
- Safety latches
Hooks are fitted with heavy-duty cast steel latches. The latch and hook tips are integrated to provide a strong, robust hook closure.
- Hook overload and traceability markings
Hooks feature overload indicator marks on either side of the hook throat (500 kg to 50 t). Both top and bottom hooks are embossed with a batch code, manufacturer’s mark, and working load limit.
- Hand chain joiner
A unique hand chain joiner provides a quick and secure method of joining the hand chain to the atex chain hoist.
- Hook housings
Secured with socket head cap screws or hex head bolts and Nyloc insert locking nuts, allowing full inspection.
- Fleeting / cross-hauling capability
Independently tested and verified (Test Report 2550-7615) for fleeting or cross-hauling applications. The atex chain hoist is certified for angles up to 60° from the vertical without deration of the WLL.
- Load chain
Fitted with a load chain fully compliant with international standard BS EN 818-7 Grade T (8).
- Operating temperature range
-40°C to +135°C.
- Proof testing
100% of atex chain hoists are proof tested to 1.5 times the WLL.
- Finish
Body has the same marine-grade paint as the WH SS C4 QP subsea corrosion-resistant chain hoist
