ROV Operated Manual Chain Hoist

The William Hackett ROV SS C4 QP Chain Hoist is a heavy-duty manual chain hoist designed and manufactured in the UK for subsea lifting applications, especially where remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) are used. It features a four-pawl mechanical engagement system that provides enhanced control, finer adjustment and improved resilience compared to conventional chain blocks. It is proof-load tested and compliant with multiple international standards.

Intended Use of The ROV SS C4 QP

  • Designed for underwater and offshore environments, including oil and gas, aquaculture, and general subsea applications.
  • Can be operated manually by an ROV using attachments such as fishtail, D-link, torque buckets, or hydraulically.
  • A grab frame facilitates easy handling by ROV manipulators.

SS C4 QP Key Technical Characteristics

  • Working Load Limits (WLL): Available from 3.2 t up to 50 t.
  • Proof Load Testing: 1.5× WLL for 3.2 t - 10 t; 1.25× WLL for 15t and 20t.
  • Safety Factor: 4:1.
  • Temperature Range: -20°C to +120°C.
  • Standards Compliance: Meets BS EN13157, ASME B30.16, AS1418.2, SANS 1594, and NORSOK R-002.
  • Hyperbaric Testing: Qualified for subsea operation to 3,000 m water depth

Design and Construction Features

  • Quad Pawl Engagement: Four pawls engaging the ratchet gear in an offset pattern for finer tensioning and greater safety.
  • Corrosion Protection: Special marine-grade paint and corrosion-protected components for subsea durability; stainless steel fixings throughout.
  • Hyperbaric Capability: Tested to 3,000 m water depth for subsea use.
  • Safety Hooks: Heavy-duty hooks with latches, overload indicators, and traceability markings.
  • Optional Accessories: Overload limiters, Hot Stab, Fishtail, D-Link, and Torque Buckets, as well as bespoke fittings such as other ROV lifting equipment, including ROV Shank Hooks, Shackles, and Sling Hooks.

Operational Features

  • Supports fleeting (side pull) and cross-hauling up to 45° without reducing WLL.
  • Load chain options include corrosion-protected Grade 8 as standard and optional calibrated 316L stainless steel.
  • Designed for underwater remote operation by means of an ROV (remote operated vehicle).
