This page has now expired. Please view our new and updated range of Miller Synthetic Rope Auto Descenders or Contact us with your requirements for a possible suitable alternative.

The 'back bone' behind this kit is the Miller SafEscape emergency evacuation devise / rescue devise which offers unrivaled lifetime cost of ownership (Purchase + Training + servicing costs) see below:

The Miller SafEscape offers greater cost savings over most other manufacturers of similar emergency escape / rescue descenders; the Re certification by a Miller Service Point is required only after seven years (if unused and as new condition) thanks to its robust and highly resistant components. This reduces down time and lowers the cost of ownership; in reality it saves approximately £80.00 - £100.00 per year in servicing costs + carriage costs. This also saves 'down time'  while the descenders are off site being serviced and therefore no back-up systems needs to be purchased to cover this period.

To comply with the Working at Height Directive users must be adequately trained and competent in the use of their height safety equipment. Users should also comply with training requirements recommended by the original equipment manufacturer and this is where big potential cost savings can be achieved. External training is not usually necessary for all employees as the this training can be delivered by the employer (pending competence) Typically training costs from third party training companies start at £500.00 and rises to over £1000.00 per day. Most other manufacturers also recommend refresher training every couple of years - even more cost!

It's up to employer to meet <<ALL>> the requirements of working at height regs and Health and Safety regs 1974.

  • The SafEscape rescue from height descender has been designed purposely to allow a rescue to be performed by a person or persons where rescue is not part of their usual role. It is to be used by the rescuer(s) to rescue the casualty without putting themselves in danger by having to descend to the casualty, leaving the relative safety of the upper working platform
  • The Miller SafEscape meets new industry standards and is certified for to new standards.
  • Miller are happy that the safescape does not require mandatory annual servicing if it is in sealed and unused for a maximum of 7 years from date of manufacture, this feature will save many thousands of pounds over the life of the devise.
  • Designed to rescue of a person left suspended after a fall from height, without the need for extensive training and not requiring technical rope access skills.
  • As with all manufacturers / suppliers of height safety equipment we offer training courses for working at height and specifically for the equipment that we will sell. What sets us apart is that our primary business is sales of equipment and not profiteering from Training packages; We offer through Miller ‘Train The Trainer’. We train your representative to cascade train your staff, potentially saving many thousands of pounds.
  • Formal training is not mandatory with the Saf Escape so simple is the equipment to use, contact us for further clarification and the actual statement from the manufacturer on training requirements.
  • We are offering a ‘No Cut’ safe and reliable solution for industrial rescue situations.
  • The SafEscape Raises the casualty with its integrated winch means that there is no need for the use of a rope based pulley system (rigging system), providing a far less technical solution and no tangling of ropes. The distance from the rescue anchorage point to casualty is not restricted as with the use of a casualty rope pulley kit, which only has a 2 metre working length
  • Though not the cheapest solution this is probably the easiest to operate, more importantly you will remember how it is used in the event of a fall in 6 months time; requires no specialist tools, rope access skills or power source required.
  • Provides a fast efficient rescue - on average a rescue takes less than 10 minutes
  • The telescopic rescue pole makes it easy to connect the SafEscape rescue device to the suspended person, even when they are unconscious.
  • A lightweight and portable rescue kit that can be expanded / enhanced to suit your working environment
  • Also used to rescue a casualty incapacitated when working at height, for example after a heart attack when working on the bridge of a crane (not fallen)
  • The SafEscape has an inbuilt Automatic descender that will descend the casualty at a maximum speed of 0.8 metres per second though slowed manually to a desired speed. Can also be used for emergency evacuation / escape of the rescuer.
  • The industrial High rescue kit is suited to most rescue situations after falls at height in all types of industry, for example construction sites, general engineering maintenance, window cleaning, aviation, offshore, scaffolding, overhead crane maintenance, steel erectors, tower cranes, telecommunications (telecom), crane maintenance, mobile elevated working platforms, etc, etc.

Questions & Answers - Good to know!

According to which standards has the Miller SafEscape ELITE TM been tested?

The Miller SafEscape ELITE TM has been tested and certified according to new EN 341:2008 Class A as well as EN 1496:2007 Class B, ISO 22159, ANSI Z359.4‐2007.

The CSA certification is in process.

(The ISO standard is the equivalent of the EN 341/2008 in the international Standardization.)

What is the difference between the old EN 341 and the new EN 341/2008

prEN 341:2008 EN 341:1993

Tests have to be done with a single descender device and in a prescribed order:

  • Dynamic strength test
  • Function tests
  • Descent energy test
  • Static strength test

No need to regard a certain order when doing the tests.

For several tests a new un proofed and unused descender device can be used, no need to use the same device for the whole test procedure.

Static strength test – test force:
10 times the max rated load, but at least 12 kN – static test is the last test in the test procedure – with the same device
Static strength test – test force:
12 kN – can be done with a new unproofed and unused descender

Descent energy test:

Test mass = 100kg

The force effecting the device is twice as much higher as it was in the EN 341:1993

Descent energy test:

Test mass = 75 kg for class A

Rope needs to conform with EN 1891:1998 The selection of the rope is relinquished to the
manufacturer
Optional wet and dry test (Done for the Miller SafEscape)
Functional test 30 kg dry . 500 m
Functional test 125 kg dry] 500 m
Functional test 30 kg wet . 500 m

Why the Miller SafEscape ELITE TM meet class A and not class B?

Descender device class A
A 'class A device' has to deal with five times more descends then a 'Class B device'.

The duration from a Device meets the EN 341 Class A is five times higher then a Class B Device.

For the segments the Miller SafEscape ELITE TM is used (i.e. Windenergy) It is essential to be able to deal also with the height and the need to rescue more people. (i.e. Mittelmann RG 9: maximum high of descending 150 m with 150 kg. Vs Miller Safescape ELITE 8 000 m with 100kg)

When will the current EN 341 standard be replaced by the new standard EN 341/2008?

During 2009, the preEN 341/2008 shall replace the former EN 341 and be regarded as state of the art.

  • Use in an emergency by 2 people weighing up to 250kg

Greater cost-savings
Made out of robust and highly resistant materials, it can be inspected every seven years instead of annually when unused, reducing down time and lowering the cost of ownership. A yearly inspection can be done from a competend person.

When used for training purposes, the unit requires recertification from the manufacturer or an authorized competent person only after 3000 meters. Up to 3000 meters, a visual inspection by an authorized competent person is sufficient.

Increased ease-of-use
The position and design of the hand wheel reduces swaying during lifting, facilitating evacuation procedures.

Descent is quick (1m/s) and smooth, thanks to a centrifugal brake, which controls the descent and reduces vibration.

Global solution
Miller SafEscape ELITE is CE, ANSI and OSHA certified, making it the perfect unit when a global solution is required.
