This Sala (UCL) Advanced Series Hoist Systems is commonly referred to as the '5 piece davit' and are perfectly suited for manriding, fall arrest and rescue applications including manhole and confined space entry / retrieval and rescue applications.

The '5 Piece Advanced Davit' - With Bespoke options

The Davit system is supplied in many configurations though here we offer as a free standing (self supporting) unit with a fully adjustable 'U' shaped base for wrapping around the confined space point of entry. The forward facing legs provide the stability; thus no expensive socket installations are required. The system is easily and quickly assembled then packed away into a carry-bag, perfect for multi site applications. The 'U' shaped bases are supplied in two sizes, standard and extra wide and both are fully adjustable in the width and length of the legs. Each corner of the 'U' base is height adjustable for use on uneven ground! All Sala (UCL) davits are made from lightweight extremely portable materials, mainly high-strength aluminum.

This is a very versatile and adaptable / customizable confined space entry kit built around a  fully adjustable horizontal jib arm. All Davits are fully customised to match your individual bespoke requirements and can be assembled to a maximum height of 3378mm and maximum reach of 1219mm.

Advantage Over a Tripod

The Davit arm rotates through 90 degrees when used on the free standing 'U' base meaning that the operator can lift then swing  / rotate the casualty away from the access hatch (falling edge) before being lowered the person to the ground. With a tripod system the winch operator needs to reach over the falling edge between the tripod legs to retrieve a casualty, putting themselves in potential danger!

Base Options

Advanced portable bases provide the stability for the advanced davit arms. Sala 5 piece Portable bases are 'free standing'; they are not fixed to a supporting structure, stability is provided by the forward facing legs and therefore do not require counterbalance weight making the Davit system light weight and portable. There are two sizes of fully adjustable 'U' shaped bases that are ideal for work areas where frequent set-up and knock down is required. Both provide length and width adjustment; height adjustment ideal for levelling the davit on uneven surfaces.

Standard Base - 8518005 For use with standard offset masts - Weight 27.3kg Adjustments: Width: 940mm to 1626mm.	Large Base - 8518008 For use with large offset masts - Weight 41.8kg Adjustments: Width: 1778mm to 2462mm.

Setup And Installation of ''U' Bases

1. Remove all parts from storage / transport bags, containers, etc., and layout on the ground. Remove leg pins (1) and rotate leg tubes (2) in leg sleeve (3) from transport / storage position to operating position.


2. Insert leg sleeve (3) into base center section (4). Overall width of base may be adjusted by selecting different holes in the leg sleeve to install pin (5).


3. Tighten tri-screws (6) after width adjustment to remove play from base.


4. Move base into position over opening. Adjust base height & level using adjuster screws (7) & level indicator (8).

***NOTE: Base MUST BE level at all times when using hoist.
