Here we have a what we believe to be a totally unique concept and have a patent pending. We offer our range of heavy duty counterbalanced floor cranes with all the usual features that would be expected from a portable workshop crane though with increased portability because our Knock Down crane (modular design) is purposely designed to be dismantled/disassembled after use and the after transportation to a new location can be quickly and simply rebuilt.

With this Knock Down Option you have completely modular floor crane with components easily removed. Each crane is supplied with quick release hydraulic ram, quick release vertical column, jib lifting arm, individually removable counterweights, handle and quick release self sealing hydraulic connectors resulting in a crane that is easy to store and  handle though most importantly the can easily be dismantled to be used in areas with difficult and awkward access e.g. the crane can be dismantled then taken up a stair well then quickly re built ready for use; this would not be possible with any other counterbalanced floor crane.

There are many circumstances that this is considered an advantage, namely; reduced weight for manual handling and a more compact design though more importantly that this floor crane can be set-up in locations that a standard counterweight floor crane simply could not because it purely would not be possible to get it there!

All our modular knock Down counterweight floor cranes are designed and manufactured in the UK and can be made / adapted to our customers specifications (sizes and safe working loads) and we offer a good range of proven accessories for example supplied with anti sparking features for use in potentially explosive areas, sparkproof or ATEX. Such features for offshore use can include stainless steel, bronze bushing, bronze load hook and piivot pins and anti static Castor's etc. See below for other additional features, for example, as a rotating jib arm (swing jib arm)

Sectional built, we call this crane our knocked down version of the CFBC-292 heavy-duty floor crane.
The most popular Capacities are 125kg and 254kg though we can offer Knocked Down portable floor cranes up to 2000kg safe working load.

Note: The pictures shown are our artists impression only and are only indicative of our capability. (for display purposes only) All cranes are made individually and the the design may be subject to change according to your required specification; the pictures are not to scale, general arrangement drawings will be issued for approval on receipt of your order.

Rear View showing weights in working position

The weights shown her counterbalance the weight of the load being lifted by the jib / hook. The number and net weight depends on the SWL of the the crane. It is possible to shorten the chassis / frame of the mobile crane though this would involve more weights.

Rear View

Front View showing quick release pin on the hydraulic ram.

The crane is designed easily striped down and re assembled some connections need to be nut and bolt though where possible quick release fittings are used.

We have a standard range of cranes with drawings available though we also manufacture bespoke Knock Down cranes with safe working loads and dimensions to suit our customers requirements. Many of the features seen on other models of counterbalanced floor cranes can also be incorporated into this design.

Floor Cranes With Spark Resistant Features / Explosion proof.

For Floor cranes to be used in potentially explosive areas / atmospheres such as Zone 1 or 2, SELS can include any anti-sparking features that our customers specify - this will increase its anti-sparking properties and therefore make the crane more suitable for use in a potentially explosive environment!

SELS will not to take the responsibility of supplying our floor cranes described as 'spark proof' as this is ‘too broad’ a term. We believe that total compliance is probably impossible because of the mechanical operation and movement of a floor crane; i.e. we cannot offer a 100% guarantee that no part of the assembly is capable of generating a spark which could ignite a flame!  IE: SELS will supply / manufacture cranes with anti sparking features to our customer’s requirements though will not certified them as sparkproof / explosion proof. Our cranes have been successfully supplied to customers in the offshore Oil and Gas industry in the UK on this basis.

LiftingSafety Review:
The Knock down version of our standard counterbalanced floor crane is perfect when a portable workshop crane is needed to be used in locations, for example by a service engineer who travels from site to site. It is a modular design, this means that all the individual parts are easily and quickly dismantled. This modular design is unique and the build quality is excellent.

Stainless Knock-down Counterbalance Floor CraneStainless Steel Knock Down Floor Crane

Our range of stainless steel Knock down counterbalanced workshop cranes are exactly the same design and offer the same options as the standard modular cranes;  designed as a corrosion resistant option for when greater portability is required. We offer 6 lifting capacities, 250kg, 500kg, 750kg, 1 tonne, 1.5 tonne and 2 tonne!

Stainless cranes are more costly than mild steel though in certain circumstances and or environments the unique corrosion resistant properties of stainless steel are essential; we offer stainless cranes mainly for use on offshore oil and gas platforms and pharmaceutical / food industry use.

To summerise we believe that the added benefit must be great enough to justify the additional cost, for example:

  • All equipment used offshore on oil and gas platforms must be reliable as equipment failure can be very expensive in terms of down time, loss of production or indeed shipping in spare parts or a replacement crane.
  • Another good example where the cost can easily be justified would be where a mild steel crane could cause contamination, for example by flaking paint or rust contaminating a process in the pharmaceutical or food production industries, possibly effecting human health!
We can supply our stainless cranes with anti sparking features for use in sparkproof or ATEX environments, we offer bronze bushing, bronze load hook, bronze pivot pins etc and anti static Castor's or any other anti-sparking features as  specified by the client.
