Self Evacuation Kits (Self Rescue)
Evacuation Kits are designed to be used by people working at height as a means to quickly evacuate the elevated working area without the need to use the usual means of egress (stairs, ladder, scaffolding, lift etc..) in the event of an emergency situation such as a fire, chemical contamination or mechanical / electrical breakdown.
The conventional egress route may be blocked or broken down or in the case of a fire may not be quick enough! Emergency evacuation will only take seconds to execute.
Self-evacuation and Self Rescue Kits have been moved and updated.
More About Self Evacutation and Kits
We offer standard emergency evacuation kits from quality manufacturers, OEM's like Miller and Sala though most of the kits that we sell are made up accordingly to our customers specific requirements. There is not a single evacuation kit that is perfect for all people and disciplines and therefore we use our knowledge and expertise to compile all the component parts that are best for each workers individual circumstance when working at height.
Our Evacuation from height kits are aimed mainly at people who work in all arrest situations rather than rope access technicians who use more specialist and technically demanding equipment. We at lifting safety specialise in non technical emergency escape kits and equipment; kits that require no formal OEM training or only a minimal amount of training.
Basically we specialise in offering easy to use emergency evacuation equipment for people who need to work at height as a part of their job, though this may not be their main work activity. Bearing in mind that it may be 6 or 12 months since the worker last did his training it is essential that in an emergency he / she must have the confidence to actually use the equipment, to save their own life. In our view there is pointless providing a self rescue kit that is so complex that user cannot remember how to use it or a kit that requires excessive manual input.
We offer self evacuation kits for different working heights, many types synthetic rope systems and descenders that use steel wire rope; some with wire rope have a spring recoil actions, they are self contained and look very similar to a fall arrest inertia reel. The automatic descenders for self evacuation are a very simple to use; connect the karabiner at the top of the descender to a suitably strong enough anchorage point above head and the bottom karabiner to the harness then let yourself over the edge, the descender will then lower the person to the floor at about 1.5 metre per second, no further manual actions are required, quick and simple!
The auto-descender versions regulate speed and descent without manual intervention, by far the simplest option to use though we do also provide manual self rescue kits where the person can manually control the descent speed, pressure on the descent handle controls descent speed, too little or too much pressure stops descent, also known as the dead man's (or panic) handle
Wire rope spring recoil Auto descenders are self contained, as opposed to synthetic rope systems that have a separate bag or coil of rope, thus giving protection from environmental elements and eliminates the possibility of the bunching and tangling of rope. They are often used as a crane descender though is suitable for any permanent installation. Rope based evacuation kits give greater versatility and are necessary for higher working positions.
